Een korte inleiding
Akkermansia muciniphilais een gramnegatief, niet-bewegend, niet-sporenvormend, ovaalvormig bacteriële organisme dat voornamelijk in eencel of in paren groeit, zelden in ketens.Het groeit in de slijmlaag van het darmkanaal en gebruikt mucine die door de gastheer wordt afgescheiden als koolstof- en stikstofbron, waardoor het darmkanaal wordt gekoloniseerd en een belangrijke rol speelt in het beschermende effect van de darmbarrière door concurrentie-uitsluiting[1]
